HYPERLOOP ONE REVS UP D.C. PRESENCE — The buzzy transportation startup that’s trying to make cross-country travel much, much faster is beefing up its Beltway operation. The company, which was inspired by an Elon Musk vision and has gone through some ups and downs this past year, is bringing on the Republican lobbying firm Jochum, Shore & Trossevin to focus on issues related to manufacturing, transportation and infrastructure. Hyperloop One also hired Dan Katz — who served as chief of staff at the Transportation Department and for the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) — as transportation policy counsel. “We can’t do first and ask permission later, we need permission in advance,” the company’s general counsel, Marvin Ammori, said of the regulatory approvals it needs to build its projects.
